Concrete contractor in the Excelsior
The Excelsior is the neighborhood whose streets are named for countries and capitals, from Brazil and Persia to Paris and Lisbon. Mission Street runs through it as the main commercial strip, and the blocks rise east toward McLaren Park. It’s a neighborhood of single-family homes with garages, yards, and driveways, which means a lot of flatwork and walls.

SCOPE OF WORK · EXCELSIOR
Concrete work in the Excelsior
Most Excelsior projects fall into one of three categories. Each links to the full service page.
Driveways & aprons
Driveways poured decades ago on thin bases sink, crack, and pond water at the garage door. We replace them on a compacted base, with joints and a slope to the street.
Concrete Driveway service → TOWARD McLAREN PARKRetaining walls
Backyards on the slopes step up the hill. Walls there hold soil and water from the lots above, and taller walls need engineering and a permit.
Retaining Walls service → MISSION STREETSidewalk repair
Lifted and broken squares on Mission Street and the residential blocks are the fronting owner’s to fix. We handle the Public Works permit, the repair, and the inspection.

Houses with yards, on rolling ground
The Excelsior began as a homestead tract in the 1800s and filled in through the early and middle 1900s. Compared with the denser neighborhoods, more lots here have a yard and a driveway.
⌂ Early- to mid-century homes
Much of the Excelsior was built between the 1910s and the 1950s: bungalows, stucco houses over garages, and some older cottages.
Foundations from that span vary a lot. Settling, cracked slabs, and sloping garage floors are worth an inspection, and ours is free.
△ Slopes toward McLaren
East of Mission Street, the blocks climb toward McLaren Park, and backyards step up the hill behind the houses.
Walls on those slopes hold soil and water from the lots above. Drainage behind the wall is what keeps it standing.
▦ Driveways that settle
A driveway on a thin base settles unevenly, cracks at the low spots, and sends water toward the garage instead of the street.
Replacement on a compacted base, with joints and a slope to the street, ends the cycle of patching.
